G3 Systems Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of IAP Worldwide Services, Inc., has delivered a
new Deployable Engineer Workshop (DEW) that can be up and running within 24 hours anywhere in the
world, enhancing the quick response capabilities of the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence (MOD).
The DEW facility is made up of a number of integrated modules carried in ISO containers which once
set up, fill an area half the size of a football field, providing a well-equipped field workshop
environment to support a wide variety of battlefield construction needs, including carpentry,
welding, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC operations.
Three of the four workshops to be brought into service as part of the $9.7 million contract
have been completed and delivered, with the fourth scheduled for completion in March. British Sappers,
known in the U.S. military as combat engineers, have incorporated the DEW into their training exercises
so military forces will be ready to construct the facility at a moment’s notice.
G3 Systems engineers developed the DEW with the MOD’s Battlefield Utilities Integrated Project
Team (BFU IPT), part of the MOD's Defence Equipment and Support organization. DEW's safe and
modern environment enables tradesmen to operate more efficiently. Before the facility’s
development, conditions in the field workshops could be less than ideal, utilizing makeshift
shelters or buildings that were not always well-suited to the task.
‘I’m delighted that the BFU Integrated Project Team has been able to provide Royal
Engineer tradesmen with the wide range of engineering facilities in such a good working
environment, and to bring this new capability into service on time and within budget,’
said Richard Holloway, BFU IPT team leader. ‘DEW has successfully passed extensive user trials
and I am confident it will perform well in the demanding operational environment.’
‘Everyone at G3 is very proud to have worked with the Battle Field Utilities team to deliver
capability to the UK's Armed Forces,’ said G3 Systems Director Peter Gleave. ‘We are confident
the DEW will provide the Royal Engineers with a flexible, safe, and effective facility to
perform their vital task.’
